About The Position

Student Affairs Finance directly supports the financial and budgeting needs for the Division of Student Affairs. As part of this support, we have a team of finance professionals dedicated to supporting the department of Recreational Sports that is responsible for multiple facilities and programs that promote active lifestyles and engagement for the campus community. Are you a finance professional passionate about supporting campus life? As an FBS Senior Analyst for Rec Sports, you will play a key role in stewarding resources that bring outstanding recreational, fitness, and sporting programs to Aggie students and the campus community. You will collaborate directly with department leaders and staff, as well as other finance team staff, support capital projects, handle a variety of accounting functions, and help optimize processes, budgeting, and reporting to keep Rec Sports running at peak performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six years of related experience
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Knowledge of financial management system and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently once given a project
  • Ability to apply rules and regulations in a complex environment
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations/rules, policies, and procedures to staff, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive accounting, financial analysis, or business services experience, preferably in higher education or a large, complex organization
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and analyzing financial reports, budgeting, forecasting, and the preparation of complex financial models
  • Experience with annual financial reporting processes and establishing or reviewing rates for compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to audit, reconcile, and lead financial transactions or functions with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience providing executive-level reporting and customer service to senior leadership (e.g., VPs, Deans, Department Heads)
  • Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to work independently and collaborate across functional teams
  • Supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, or train staff or student workers
  • Strong attention to detail, discretion in handling confidential information, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level presentations and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits mastery in executing, reviewing, and auditing complex accounting and financial transactions
  • Assists in setting strategic and programmatic financial and budget goals
  • Assists in performing Annual Financial Report (AFR) tasks
  • Develops and prepares financial presentations, reports, financial models, and projections
  • Assists with establishing, analyzing, and reviewing rates for compliance
  • Provides reports and executive-level communication and customer service to VP’s, Deans, Department Heads, and other senior staff
  • Initiates process improvements to enhance efficiencies and workflows
  • Assists in preparing annual budget allocations to departments, position budgeting tasks, commitment tracking, and departmental budget requests
  • Tracks internal projects, audits, business records, and records management
  • Coordinates access requests
  • Oversees or leads a function or serves as a subject matter expert in one or more areas
  • Research policies, practices, and/or trouble transactions for solutions
  • Prepares and maintains standard operating procedures and internal resource documents
  • May research project coordination with Sponsored Research Services and other campus group
  • May review and revise job aides as needed
  • May supervise student workers
  • May mentor or train subordinate staff members
  • Assist with analyzing the long-range financial position of the department and updating proforma forecasts as needed for debt financing/short term commercial paper financing
  • Conduct periodic rate studies of all programmatic areas within the department
  • Provide business advisory, financial data, and cost analysis services to programmatic area budget administrators within Rec Sports
  • Review quarterly Golf Course P3 financial statements and calculate TAMU portion of net cash flow and alcohol license fees
  • Assist with depreciation schedules and renewal/modification plans for multiple facilities managed by Rec Sports
  • May supervise Rec Sports Finance team members and operations
