About The Position

The Farm Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and overall performance of all farm equipment and vehicles at the Clewiston shop and surrounding field operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that tractors, harvest machinery, trucks, irrigation pumps, and other essential equipment are consistently reliable, safe, and available to meet the demands of fresh produce farming. The Farm Fleet Manager will lead a team of mechanics, manage preventative and corrective maintenance programs, and coordinate with farm and harvest leadership to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in fleet management, agricultural equipment maintenance, or a related field; at least 2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of agricultural and commercial equipment (tractors, trucks, harvesters, irrigation systems, engines, and hydraulics).
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Experience managing a preventative maintenance program and leading a team of mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control systems, maintenance tracking software, and basic budgeting practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative maintenance schedules for tractors, harvesters, implements, trucks, trailers, irrigation pumps, and small engines.
  • Monitor equipment performance and proactively address issues to prevent costly breakdowns during planting, harvesting, and distribution periods.
  • Oversee all corrective maintenance to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
  • Coordinate rapid response repairs in the field to minimize downtime during critical farming operations.
  • Maintain a mobile support plan for mechanics to service equipment directly in production areas.
  • Communicate closely with farm supervisors and harvest crews to prioritize urgent equipment needs.
  • Lead a team of shop and field mechanics, ensuring proper staffing levels, balanced workloads, and high performance across all shifts.
  • Oversee daily operations, assign priorities, and coordinate with production and logistics to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
  • Provide hands-on training in diagnostics, repair techniques, preventive maintenance, and safety compliance, reinforcing a culture of technical excellence.
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration between maintenance, operations, and safety teams.
  • Manage employee relations matters within the department, including coaching, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements through consistent communication and oversight.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service histories, and inspection reports for all farm equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements for agricultural and commercial vehicles.
  • Collaborate with compliance and safety teams to implement best practices for equipment operation.
  • Manage parts inventory for the shop, including sourcing, ordering, and tracking usage to control costs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure timely access to parts and supplies.
  • Evaluate cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Assist in developing the annual fleet maintenance budget and monitor expenses against targets.
  • Prepare reports on equipment utilization, downtime, repair costs, and lifecycle planning to support farm management decision-making.
  • Recommend equipment replacement or upgrades based on performance data and cost analysis.
