About The Position

Ashbourne Farms is hosting a Summer Fellowship Program at our scenic farm located in LaGrange, KY. This program provides high school students aged 14-16 an opportunity to gain valuable experience in farm work, including landscaping, gardening, and animal care. This educational program is designed to teach sustainable farming practices, promote teamwork, and foster a strong work ethic in an outdoor setting, offering participants a pathway to future opportunities in agriculture, including potential roles at Ashbourne Farms. Students interested in learning more about this program are encouraged to apply. Applications are open through April 10 and on-site interviews will take place in April. Students must have reliable transportation to and from the farm daily. Parental consent for the program is required. Letters of recommendation following successful completion of the program provided. Schedule, Pay and Location: Duration : 9 Weeks (June 1-July 31, 2026) Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break and one 10-minute paid rest break), not eligible for overtime Hourly Rate : $7.25/hour, paid bi-weekly via direct deposit only Attendance Expectations : Students are expected to attend their shifts consistently and provide appropriate notice when schedule conflicts arise. Repeated attendance issues may result in the student’s exit from the program. Working Conditions : This is a hands-on program and requires students to work in and be exposed to typical outdoor farm elements (weather, insects, animals, dirt) and repetitive physical labor. More About the Program Objectives: To provide hands-on experience in farming practices and equip individuals with practical skills needed to pursue a career in agriculture, foster a connection to the environment, and allow participants to learn about farm operations through direct involvement while building a network within the industry. Introduce participants to sustainable farming, landscaping, and gardening practices. Develop skills in animal care, including feeding, cleaning, and general animal health maintenance. Teach the safe use of gardening tools and landscaping equipment. Encourage personal responsibility, teamwork, and time management. Fellowship Responsibilities Landscaping: Assist with planting, mulching, weeding, trimming, and watering plants. Learn to maintain landscaping tools. Gardening: Plant, maintain, and harvest vegetables and fruits. Monitor garden health and identify pests. Support composting and other sustainable growing practices. Help maintain mushroom growing facilities, apiary and flower gardens as needed. Animal Care: Feed and water farm animals. Maintain and clean animal enclosures. Assist with animal health checks. Educational Seminars: Seminars taught by Ashbourne Farms staff on agriculture lessons once per week, but every day will have informal learning opportunities as daily tasks are completed.
