About The Position

Ashbourne Farms is hosting a Summer Internship Program at our scenic farm located in LaGrange, KY . This paid internship offers individuals (age 17+) the opportunity to gain valuable experience in farm work, with a focus on landscaping, gardening, and animal care. This educational program is designed to teach sustainable farming practices, promote teamwork, and foster a strong work ethic in an outdoor setting, offering participants a pathway to future opportunities in agriculture, including potential roles at Ashbourne Farms. Candidates interested in learning more about this program are encouraged to apply. Applications are open through April 10 th and on-site interviews will take place in April. Interns must have reliable transportation to and from the farm daily. Letters of recommendation following successful completion of the program provided. Schedule, Pay and Location: Duration : 9 Weeks (June 1-July 31, 2026) Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break and one 10-minute paid rest break), not eligible for overtime Hourly Rate : $12-16 per hour based on experience and skill level, paid bi-weekly via direct deposit only Attendance Expectations : Interns are expected to attend their shifts consistently and provide appropriate notice when schedule conflicts arise. Repeated attendance issues may result in the Intern’s exit from the program. Working Conditions : This is a hands-on program and requires interns to work in and be exposed to typical outdoor farm elements (weather, insects, animals, dirt) and repetitive physical labor. More About the Program Objectives: Hands-on experience in farm operations, crop production, and livestock management Training in sustainable farming practices and organic growing methods Exposure to farm business operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and inventory management Leadership and mentorship experience guiding junior interns Real-world problem-solving and decision-making experience Opportunity to assist with summer camps (ages 6–12) and the Farmer for a Day program (ages 5–8) Internship Responsibilities All responsibilities listed below are carried out under the supervision and guidance of an experienced Farm Worker to ensure quality, safety, and alignment with farm standards. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Landscaping: Lead or assist with planting, mowing, mulching, and lawn care Safely operate and maintain landscaping equipment Mentor junior interns on proper landscaping techniques
  • Gardening: Lead garden projects from planting to harvest Support crop rotation planning and sustainable pest management Monitor plant health and maximize garden productivity
  • Animal Care: Oversee daily care of sheep, goats, and miniature donkeys Feed, water, and monitor animal health Collect, wash, and package eggs Maintain and clean animal enclosures Participate in breeding management or other specialized tasks as needed
  • Farm Management Support: Assist with farm scheduling and operational planning Maintain inventory and equipment records Support maintenance projects such as fence or equipment repair
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a role model for junior interns Coordinate daily tasks and encourage teamwork Promote safety, productivity, and engagement across the team
  • Educational Seminars: Seminars taught by Ashbourne Farms staff on agriculture lessons occasionally, but every day will have informal learning opportunities as daily tasks are completed.
