What's your day like? As a Full-Time Family Worker, you will engage in daily tasks that are both rewarding and impactful. Each day, you will support families in enrolling pre-school children in the Head Start Program, guiding them through the enrollment process and addressing any questions or concerns they might have. You will conduct home visits, assess family needs, and develop individualized plans to help families access vital resources. Collaboration is key, so you can expect to coordinate with local educational and social service agencies to ensure families receive comprehensive support. Additionally, you'll participate in team meetings to share insights and strategies. Your schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, allowing for a consistent routine that promotes work-life balance while ensuring you can dedicate your time effectively to those you serve. To be successful as a Full-Time Family Worker at Ulster County Community Action Committee, a variety of skills and qualifications are essential. A degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field—either an Associate or Bachelor’s—will provide a solid foundation for your work. Additionally, you should have at least two years of experience working with at-risk families, as this experience is crucial for understanding their unique challenges and needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills are imperative, as you will need to convey information clearly and compassionately to families. You will also be expected to document your interactions effectively. A reliable means of personal transportation is necessary to conduct home visits and meet families where they are. This combination of skills will empower you to support families in enrolling pre-school children in the Head Start Program and foster positive change in their lives.
