About The Position

The Family Support Specialist for Healthy Families Kent County is responsible for providing in-home visits to support parent-child relationships, child development, and family well-being. This position will conduct screenings, offer referrals, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with program standards, while also engaging in professional development and adhering to safety regulations.

Requirements

  • The Family Support Specialist must have 2 years of current and progressive experience working with children and families, a valid driver’s license per program specifications, physical and psychological ability to complete the job.
  • Candidates must be able to work a non-traditional schedule based upon program requirements.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to document work clearly and concisely, and in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of community systems, private health care systems, collateral agencies
  • Knowledge of child development, attachment relationships, and age-appropriate activities
  • Knowledge of developmental screening tools
  • Knowledge of health care needs of young children
  • Ability to do person/family centered planning
  • Knowledge about recipient’s rights and HIPAA compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of code of ethics and a history of ethical behavior
  • Ability to work independently within a team structure
  • Ability to work in a community-based setting
  • Knowledge regarding program specific expectations

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Meets established program standards for productivity and service delivery.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, integrates cultural competencies, and engages in ongoing cultural development.
  • Ensures documentation meets organization and program standards for quality and timeliness.
  • Fosters teamwork, accountability, and positive communication with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Adheres to safety regulations, completes required training, and follows transportation laws when transporting families.
