About The Position

Under the supervision of the Area Director, provides ERSEA oversight and case management services. Ensures that no more than ten (10) percent are children from families that exceed the low-income guidelines and children with disabilities. Develops and provides social work systems, casework consultation/training and assists in strategies to access community resources within the local communities. Must adhere to the core values of the Agency and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct for Early Childhood Practitioners and Professional Practice, required Head Start competencies, National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics or other professional codes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Principles and practices of program supervision and administration; Evidence-based family support practices
  • Human Development, especially social and emotional development of children and adults
  • Local, state, and federal regulations respective to the areas of responsibility, including but not limited to Head Start Program Performance Standards and Community Care Licensing.
  • Ability to: Work effectively and respectfully with staff and families; exercise sound, independent judgment within general policy and procedural guidelines
  • Operate computers, software applications
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form with individuals of various educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field from an accredited college/university, with (2) years of direct supervision experience, and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience providing direct service to low-income families of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in English from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must meet and maintain state law and county licensing requirements regarding employment in a child care center (fingerprints, TB, physical).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including receptivity to feedback from staff and families

  • Support and model ethical practice
  • Engage in culturally responsive relationships with staff, families, and community members
  • Prevent and resolve conflict amongst staff and/or staff and families.
  • Plan and implement strategies for recruitment of eligible families in the community.
  • Support and implement family engagement strategies in a systemic and integrated manner
  • Utilize and teach crisis management skills
  • Ensure that staff maintain appropriate boundaries with families.
  • Orient new staff
  • Support staff in skill building and professional development
  • Coach staff in reflective listening and verbal and non-verbal messaging
  • Build on staff strengths and encourage staff to take responsibility for their own growth
  • Facilitate group trainings, provide consultations and promote supportive learning environments
  • Implement progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Possess leadership and advocacy skills
  • Communicate regularly and transparently with program management
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and ensure adherence to Head Start Program Performance Standards and agency policies and procedures
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and systems
  • Utilize ongoing monitoring to collect and analyze data
  • Perform administrative functions in a timely manner
  • Complete other duties as assigned
