About The Position

This position oversees, directs, and plans activities for crews performing building maintenance and construction retrofits on existing facilities. Duties include: performing varied activities; communicating City management and the general public; and exercising initiative, decision-making, and independent judgment. This position is classified as a non-exempt, full-time position with a 40 hour work-week.

Requirements

  • Associate degree; and three (3) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and construction retrofitting.
  • Knowledge of basic rules of safety.
  • Knowledge of City and Florida Building Code.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment typically used in performing job duties.
  • Knowledge of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in providing customer service.
  • Skill in establishing positive customer relations.
  • Skill in solving problems.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to deal with people effectively, courteously, and enthusiastically
  • Ability to prepare and/or process work orders as well as purchase orders.
  • Ability to be held accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
  • Ability to use equipment in performing job duties.
  • Ability to enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to make decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff members engaged in the maintenance and repairs at various facilities and grounds for the City of Doral.
  • Schedules and assigns work; checks work orders; and troubleshoots and resolves problems.
  • Maintains safe working conditions for staff and employees by following and enforcing City safety standards.
  • Completes special projects as directed.
  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems; detects malfunctions and needed repairs; and provides findings to supervisor for approval.
  • Assists the Department during emergency preparedness.
  • Works on-call as scheduled.
  • Assists with the coordination and setup of events.
  • Performs various routine maintenance, including repairing and/or performing maintenance work on the building, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
  • Assists, guides, and accompanies vendors during the performance of maintenance and repairs of City buildings and structures.
  • Maintains an inventory of all building maintenance material and equipment; provides recommendation for replacement of equipment; and purchases material as needed.
  • Oversees the assignment, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Interprets and explains regulations as required by the City and Florida Building Code.
  • Acts as a liaison between the crews and other departments.
  • Receives and responds to employee complaints.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
