About The Position

Seattle Pacific University is seeking a reliable and service‑oriented Facilities Support Technician to join the Facility & Project Management team. This role supports daily campus operations by transporting equipment and supplies, assisting with event setups, performing basic maintenance and repairs, managing housekeeping supply delivery, and contributing to campus cleanliness and safety. Facilities team members are designated as essential personnel and play a vital role in ensuring a welcoming, safe, and functional campus environment consistent with SPU’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; ability to understand, speak, read, and write English.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License with good driving record; ability to earn and maintain Forklift Certification (training provided).
  • Ability to lift and carry 90 pounds.
  • Ability to load/unload materials, climb stairs and ladders while carrying items, and access all areas of campus at any time.
  • Ability to drive a range of service vehicles, from small pickups to large dump trucks.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and read event setup diagrams.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to foster a welcoming environment for students, employees, and guests.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the use of an iPad, handheld radio, work‑order management system, trucks, box trucks, pallet jacks, ladders, forklift, lift gates, dump truck, and snow‑removal equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework.
  • One year of experience as a utility worker or in a similar facilities or maintenance role.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience with forklift operation, hand truck usage, tying down loads, moving large items, and operation of powered lifts.

Responsibilities

  • Move, load, unload, and transport equipment and supplies around campus using university vehicles.
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other equipment for campus events based on room diagrams, work orders, and schedules.
  • Provide year‑round event support, which may include weekend or overtime hours.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks for building systems and equipment, including windows, doors, screens, painted surfaces, basic plumbing tasks, drain cleaning, and dormitory furniture repair.
  • Assist journey‑level trades staff in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and mechanical tasks as needed.
  • Deliver housekeeping supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels at assigned campus locations.
  • Support waste‑management operations, including topping off dumpsters, rotating dumpsters per schedule, litter pickup, and removing small deceased animals.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation approximately seven times per year, responding to campus within two hours during off-hours and performing basic maintenance needs.
  • Work outside regular hours during emergencies or planned overtime needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
