About The Position

Temporary Office Pool - Facilities Supervisor This is an on-site, part-time, temporary, non-exempt position. This position entails 29 hr/wk schedule expected to last until to mid October. Hourly Range: $23-25/hr. Salary commensurate with relevant experience. Boston College is a Division One university with approximately 9,600 undergraduate students (8,000 residential), located on 118 acres in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a beautiful suburb seven miles from the center of Boston. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1863, Boston College has strong Jesuit Catholic educational values, which are used as a foundation for our work with and care for students. The mission of the Office of Residential Life is to create a respectful, healthy, and safe living community for our residents. Our role in this formational development is achieved by promoting the academic mission, encouraging responsible and ethical behaviors, engaging residents in conversations regarding diversity, and creating safe, well-managed learning environments where students can seek the greater good. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President and Director of Residential Education and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 22 graduate positions, 192 RAs, and 20 additional student workers. Primary Areas of Responsibility The temporary Facilities Supervisor oversees the maintenance, installation, and inventory of furniture across approximately 8,000 student bed spaces on four campuses, as well as staff apartments, lounges, common areas, and an off‑site warehouse. This hands-on role will support daily operations including inspections, room readiness, safety checks, vendor coordination, vehicle operation, and emergency response, while also supporting major seasonal transitions such as summer housing turnover and fall occupancy preparation. The supervisor leads 15–20 student workers with training and directing their work and serves as the primary on‑site contact for external service providers. They ensure timely processing of work orders, maintain accurate warehouse and storage inventories, support campus events, and address facilities concerns promptly to keep residential spaces safe, functional, and ready for continuous student and guest use.

Requirements

  • Must be able to use work order and housing management systems, mobile devices, email, timekeeping platforms, and common office software to support, track, and complete daily responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to be a team player, to work independently, and to be a self-starter are essential qualities.
  • Must be able handle a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move large furniture items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer some experience in repairing furniture, knowledge of basic hand tools and repairs to furnishings, previous supervisory experience and experience moving furniture.
