About The Position

This position is responsible to plan, assign and supervise work of building maintenance technicians in the construction, alteration, repair and preventative maintenance of buildings, floors, painting, roofs, walls, stairways, doors, windows and other structures of the medical complex. Estimate time and materials required for jobs. Supervise/Order materials, supplies and inventories. Prepare plans and sketches. Ability to read and understand plans and specifications prepared by architects and engineers. Inspects projects upon completion for compliance to work requests. Perform related duties as required. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of all policies and procedures for all relevant areas within facilities, train staff as appropriate, and ensure all staff are in compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will provide expertise and support to all engineering specialists as needed. The position will consult with the following standards: Joint Commission, DC Department of Health, EP A, DCRA, OSHA, Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers, Space Management, International codes & standards, and other regulatory agencies. Responds to all hospital emergencies including but not limited to leaks, odors and fire alarms. Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and or arms and to talk and hear. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must lift and or move up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required) And
  • Vocational Education Trade school & extensive knowledge of electrical codes (Required)
  • 10 years Facility maintenance/carpentry experience or other related industry experience. (Required)
  • 5 years A minimum of 5 years' experience in hospital engineering facility maintenance management (Required)
  • Frequently bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk and reach, carry, push, pull 40 - 75 pounds during shift.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years Healthcare experience within an acute care and research hospital (Preferred)
  • DCRA General Contractor License (Preferred)
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage minor to medium construction projects.
  • Inspect workmanship of building maintenance technicians and projects for quality and compliance; review and ensure compliance with critical space.
  • Manage the Building Maintenance Program(BMP).
  • Point of contact for all BMP upgrades and maintenance.
  • Sign off on all project work completed for performance outcomes.
  • Ensure the contract and work on fire wall and smoke barrier penetrations.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide expertise and support to all building maintenance technicians as needed.
  • Ensure all staff are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform, review, and summarize data for monthly departmental review .
  • Ensure that a safe work environment is maintained.
  • Perform documented safety rounds.
  • Provide training as needed for facility/engineering staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to support staff and direct reports.
  • Support Training Specialists competency trainings for off shifts.
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
