Facilities Specialist

Allen Control SystemsAustin, TX

About The Position

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup, founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing a small, autonomous gun turret that employs advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach requires overcoming significant technical challenges, making this an exciting and dynamic environment for experienced engineers and manufacturing professionals. Allen Control Systems is seeking a hands-on Facilities Specialist to take direct ownership of our physical infrastructure across our HQ, machine shop, and production environments. This role is designed to bring facility maintenance in-house, displacing our current reliance on general contractors and sub-contractors for daily operational needs. You will be the primary "fixer" for the building—performing repairs and infrastructure setup yourself while coordinating external help for specialized trades requiring a license and/or large-scale projects.

Requirements

  • Experience: Strong background in facility maintenance, trades, or construction; experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair light HVAC, plumbing, and electrical issues.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Highly skilled with power tools and hand tools for assembly and facility installations.
  • Ownership Mindset: A strong commitment to "extreme ownership" and the resourcefulness to solve physical facility issues independently.
  • Communication: Clear verbal communication for professional interaction with the internal team and external vendors.
  • Proactive Approach: A self-motivated, "bias-for-action" mindset suited for a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Maintenance: Perform hands-on repairs across all facilities, including light HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Infrastructure & Assembly: Lead the physical setup of the workspace, including assembling and anchoring industrial racking, workbenches, tables, and office furniture.
  • In-Sourced Repairs: Act as the primary internal resource for facility needs to minimize the use of external sub-contractors.
  • Shop Support: Operate equipment and basic shop tools to modify facility components or fabricate simple solutions as needed.
  • Vendor Oversight: Serve as the on-site point of contact for external GCs when specialized work is required, ensuring they meet ACS standards.
  • Safety & Upkeep: Ensure the machine shop and production floor stay safe and organized to support high-speed manufacturing.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance tasks, facility modifications, and safety inspections.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • ACS Equity Package
  • Health, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
