About The Position

The Facilities Service Technician plays an essential role in the museum and is vital to keeping the building maintained and operational. Your responsibilities include the general maintenance and repair of the building, grounds, furniture, and fixtures. The Facilities Service Technician serves as a crucial backup and is on call to provide support during facility emergencies. This ensures the museum's facilities operate smoothly even in unexpected situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience working in a facilities capacity, trade or related field
  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing and electrical
  • Solid knowledge of general maintenance and repairs
  • Competency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Windows products
  • Ability to climb 12 feet or higher on irregular surfaces, such as the Scramble slide and netting, without fear
  • Ability to lift heavy objects of 75-100 lbs. or more on an occasional basis

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance, repair, inspection and emergency servicing of building including but not limiters to: HVAC and mechanical equipment, elevators, electrical systems, District Energy systems, and associated controls, including pneumatics and VAV boxes.
  • Support building-wide preventive maintenance programs and monitor help desk requests to complete daily repairs to mechanical, furniture, and miscellaneous museum equipment as needed; perform minor general maintenance tasks and coordinate regulated work with licensed trades or vendors as required.
  • Support and oversee grounds maintenance activities, including snow removal, lawn and plant care, and street and sidewalk upkeep; monitor work quality and coordinate improvements with vendors and internal teams as directed.
  • Support tracking, maintenance, and inventory control of furniture, fixtures, and equipment, including sound and lighting equipment; assist with purchasing and ongoing upkeep as needed.
  • Coordinate room setups for daily operations and special activities, work across departments, and respond to building and mechanical emergency calls, including after-hours support as required.
  • Partner with Exhibit Production Team to support building-related needs (electrical, lighting, minor adjustments).
  • Assist with the setup and take down of exhibits.
  • Act as a back-up to Exhibits when not available to address immediate issues/promptly troubleshoot.
  • Act as key administrator of the Museum's Building Automation System. Perform data entry, process work orders. Produce reports and coordinate system organization and trouble shooting.
  • Act as key link between building automation systems service representatives and museum staff.
  • Track service requested tickets and monitor help desk for service tickets.
  • Perform routine upgrades and evaluate system for ongoing improvement and efficiency.
  • Maintain organized mechanical spaces and tools; complete assigned maintenance tasks; maintain accurate work order documentation; and escalate unresolved issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to assess mechanical failures and devise safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of building materials finishes, primarily wood, plastic, metal, paints, coatings, and laminates.
  • Support and execute custodian duties when short-staffed/additional support is needed.
  • Back-up Facilities Manager or Custodian Coordinator when both are unavailable.
