About The Position

Responsible for managing all aspects of the museum campus facilities. This includes ensuring maintenance and repair of the Farnsworth Art Museums’ buildings, grounds, and equipment. Plans and oversees capital improvement projects including renovations, repairs, and potential expansions. Develops and implements a maintenance program to create optimal facility functionality. Works with the Security Manager to implement safety procedures for all staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of OSHA (30 hour class highly preferred) and other environmental regulations.
  • General knowledge of security practices and procedures
  • Strong organizational, communication, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to address and resolve day-to-day issues, problems and long term responsibilities independently and professionally
  • Flexibility and cooperativeness; supportive of colleagues in all areas of museum operations
  • Three years of experience in plant management; experience with demonstrable skills in staff supervision and facilities management
  • Ability to address and resolve issues and situations which are potentially hazardous or which may cause loss to the Museum
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact efficiently with associates and the general public

  • Must successfully complete and pass a security background check

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising housekeeping and maintenance personnel
  • Maintains main museum campus as well as two historic sites and the Farnsworth cemetery
  • Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and service providers for facility related projects
  • Monitors and manages building systems, including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Identifies, develops and implements a plan for maintenance, repair and annual upkeep, including those required on a seasonal basis
  • Works with Director of Operations and CFO on annual budget development for facilities department
  • Maintain computer records of repair and maintenance on all buildings and properties
  • Maintain and monitor all facility systems and equipment, responding to and resolving problems where and when appropriate
  • Provide daily direction and periodically update training of housekeeping and maintenance staff
  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team and works in partnership with the Director of Operations, Chief Curator, and Security Manager, preparing for emergencies through risk management planning
  • Conducts all facilities related contract negotiations
