About The Position

The Facilities Manager will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the Newton CFV headquarters laboratory and facility environment to support safe, efficient, and high-quality daily operations. This position ensures laboratory safety standards are met, supports rapid prototyping and R&D activities, and maintains readiness of all lab and facility resources. The Facilities Manager is responsible for managing lab tooling, fixtures, consumables, and test equipment, while providing hands-on support to engineers during experiments, validation builds, and prototype development. In addition to laboratory support, this role oversees the day-to-day maintenance and operation readiness of the Newton CFV headquarters facility, ensuring the building, equipment, and utilities are properly maintained and prepared for daily work. The Facilities Manager coordinates routine and preventative maintenance activities, addresses facility issues, and supports a safe and organized work environment. The ideal candidate has a background in prototyping or R&D, with strong mechanical and electromechanical build experience and is comfortable operating material-handling equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in prototyping, research and development, laboratory operations, facility maintenance, or a similar hands-on technical role.
  • Hands-on mechanical and electromechanical build experience, including assembly, modification, repair, and maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • Experience maintaining facilities, including building organization, routine and preventive maintenance coordination, and oversight of equipment and utilities.
  • Proficiency in the use of power tools, machine tools, meters, test instrumentation, and general assembly equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience operating material-handling and access equipment, including forklifts and scissor lifts (certification preferred or ability to obtain).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish structure, standard processes, and efficient workflows.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership who can work independently and manage tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities and shifting demands.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize laboratory spaces to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive working environment.
  • Implement and uphold safety standards and protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and facilities.
  • Develop, document, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab operations and equipment use.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of lab tooling, fixtures, consumables, and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Ensure all tools, instruments, and test equipment are properly calibrated and in good working condition.
  • Support rapid prototyping activities including; machining, assembly, fit-ups, repairs, and equipment modifications.
  • Build, assemble, and instrument test stands, fixtures, and rigs to support experimental setups and validation testing.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to facilitate hands-on experiments, validation builds, and development efforts.
  • Establish and maintain organized processes, standard work, and workflows to improve lab efficiency and repeatability.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in lab operations and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and ready workspace, demonstrating pride in tool readiness and facility presentation.
  • Oversee the organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the entire Newton CFV headquarters facility.
  • Schedule, coordinate, track routine and preventive maintenance for building systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Ensure utilities (electrical, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, etc.) are fully functional and support daily operations.
  • Monitor building safety, compliance, and inspection requirements, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate repairs and service activities with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
  • Work closely with engineering and operational teams to understand project needs and provide hands-on support.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with team members and leadership.
  • Contribute positively to team culture and remain calm, flexible, and solutions-focused while adapting to changing priorities and demands.
