About The Position

Responsible for the overall management of the Maintenance and Mechanic Department personnel at all Eastern Shipbuilding Group locations and the procurement, maintenance, and repair of equipment and machines. Lead the Departments in providing both a proactive and reactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and machinery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus five to seven years previous heavy equipment maintenance/machinery experience.
  • Must be able to manage a crew of individuals to get the job done efficiently, effectively, and safely.
  • Requires knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, general business periodicals, professional documents, Company policies/procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, employees, government officials, and the public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
  • Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
  • The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstand extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years supervisory experience desired.
  • Previous shipyard experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planned scheduling of tasks and overseeing the adherence and timely completion of work.
  • Develop maintenance procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the procurement of equipment, parts, material, and services as needed.
  • Supervise/coordinate the inspection and testing of machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions,
  • Manage the scheduling of repairs/maintenance to minimize downtown.
  • Document and maintain accurate records on inspections, repairs/maintenance, and man-hours, etc.
  • Responsible for meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Depts.
  • Provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Resolve issues regarding day-to-day operations.
  • Direct the repair and reassembling of defective machinery and equipment as required.
  • Confer with Production Management and Superintendents to coordinate work schedules and prioritize work.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
