Facilities Assistant

About The Position

Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019. We are currently recruiting a FT Facilities Maintenance Technician with maintenance experience or training. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance of facilities & equipment of Roof Above Properties. Therefore, passion, respect, and an understanding that this job directly provides daily support for those served by our mission is a must.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
1+ years of experience in facility maintenance or a related field preferred.
Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
Good physical stamina: ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Responsibilities

Execute work orders in a timely fashion and report any delays immediately to supervisor
Perform preventative and reactive maintenance tasks as assigned by Facility Manager
Execute electrical and plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installations
Perform handyman work functions to include painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
Communicate to facility manager site conditions and concerns
Communicate with staff and/or tenants on work order process
Be willing, on occasion, to perform humble tasks as they relate to the nature of our work
Be positive support of all Roof Above programs and staff
Be good stewards of all Roof Above property
