The Fabrication Superintendent will oversee the operation of the Fabrication Department. They will be responsible for management of the fabrication shop and its team members, including supervisors, as it pertains to safety, project work flow (schedule adherence), quality, resources (hiring and allocation), team member development (growth, training, succession planning), cost control (project budget and department spending) and coordination with Machine Shop, QA, Engineering and other departments as required to maintain a consistent and acceptable work flow. The Fabrication Superintendent will ensure the team’s goals are aligned and represent the overall company’s cultures and values. They will direct the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of production standards. Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity, quality, and cost of work. They will ensure machinery and equipment are properly used and safely handled. Committed to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of weld processes and procedures.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 10+ years in fabrication / welding / industrial construction or manufacturing.
  • 5+ years in a leadership or supervisory role (foreman, lead superintendent, fabrication manager).
  • Strong background with: Welding procedures & codes, assembly and installation of heavy components, paint and blast booth operations, rigging and lifting practices, quality control and inspection oversight.
  • Understanding of project lifecycles, fabrication schedules, and coordination with stakeholders.
  • OSHA training.
  • Budget and resource planning.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical diploma preferred.
  • Experience working within ERP system, Epicor preferred but not required.
  • Experience in large-scale structural fabrication preferred.
  • Hydroelectric or power generation projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute the work in a safe manner in the fabrication department.
  • Enable and direct the training and development of welders, helpers, fabricators and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with Operations Support and Scheduling personnel to develop and plan the work in the fabrication shop.
  • Direct the work force in a timely and efficient manner to assure project work is completed on time and within project budgeted hours and costs without quality defects.
  • Check the quality of work in process and also complete verification of finished work.
  • Work with Maintenance department as required to keep all equipment maintained and in good working condition.
  • Manage work within the fabrication shop to maintain schedules and achieve acceptable schedule adherence.
  • Keep Operations Manager informed of any problems with manufacturing safety or personnel issues or incidences.
  • Inform Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager of any maintenance issues.
  • Review scheduling with production scheduling daily and provide updates as required to maintain the production schedule, provide data to make adjustments as needed to maintain an accurate estimate to complete and forecast.
  • Meet direct hour and productivity goals and targets as set by the Operations Manager.
  • Work with sales team to review estimates and provide input.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering on continuous improvement actions/projects.
  • Manage team members performance, ensuring they have support, tools, training and any information required to successfully perform their job functions.
  • Oversee contractors and be point of contact with agency partner.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures and processes.
  • Direct the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of production standards.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity, quality, and cost of work.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are properly used and safely handled.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
