The Extra Help Assistant-Library Student Worker is responsible for providing unskilled, semi-skilled labor or performing basic office tasks in a state agency or institution. Extra Help Assistant-Library Student Worker positions are part-time, non-benefits-eligible positions within Ottenheimer Library responsible for supporting various library services and initiatives. The position requires working 12-20 hours per week. Certain positions will require working nights and weekends. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled at UA Little Rock
  • Formal education of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress call number sequences
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform detailed work
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, move book carts, and lift to 20 pounds
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and reach
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment

Responsibilities

  • Check library materials in and out
  • Retrieve and shelves books, journals, A/V materials, and microforms
  • Straighten, shift, and read shelves
  • Assist library users with library research and the application of technology
  • Assist library users with equipment such as computers, microform readers, and printers/copiers
  • Process Interlibrary Loan requests
  • Scan and deliver digital copies of library materials
  • Retrieve, process, and package incoming and outgoing mail through Mail Services
  • Create/edit documents, spreadsheets, graphs, and files
  • Attend and actively participate in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned
