About The Position

Penn State Extension is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Extension Educator - Flower Trials Manager to manage our flower trials program located at the Southeast Extension and Research Center (SEAREC) in Manheim, PA. As the Flower Trials Manager, you will manage a comprehensive flower trials program, including planning, scheduling, designing, maintaining, budgeting, and reporting for container and field grown annuals and perennials.

Requirements

  • Have experience working in the floriculture industry with preference for experience trialing ornamental plants.
  • Possess strong organizational and communications skills (both oral and written).
  • Be computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possess a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s License or obtain one within the first six months of employment.
  • Master's Degree
  • 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the SEAREC Director to oversee plant fertility, irrigation, health, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Recruit and supervising undergraduate interns.
  • Help recruit Master Gardener volunteers and coordinate collaborative trial sites in Hershey and Pittsburgh to ensure protocol compliance.
  • Acquire plant materials from breeders and suppliers, maintain detailed records, conduct seasonal evaluations, and supporting data analysis.
  • Manage the trials website, exploring innovative technologies to enhance trial efficiency, and producing content for trade publications and social media.
  • Develop and deliver educational programming related to the flower trials and floriculture production including but not limited to In-person and digitally delivered presentations, and new articles and content for trade press and social media.
  • Collaborate with University Park faculty on research projects associated with trials at SEAREC.
