Fairfield County Ohio State University Extension seeks an Educator to work collaboratively with county, area and state teams of Extension professionals and with local agency leaders and volunteers. ANR educator helps producers develop and expand profitable, sustainable farming and other agricultural businesses – thereby impacting jobs and economic opportunity for Ohio’s citizens. Educator provides leadership, collaboration, consulting, unbiased information, applied research, and access to land-grant university knowledge to address local issues and needs. Despite being one of the most rapidly urbanizing counties in Ohio, Fairfield County growers continue to market $160 million worth of agriculture and horticulture products annually. More than 50% of Fairfield County's land mass is in farms. In addition, 17% remains in forestland. Agriculture in the county is quite diverse including not only traditional crops and livestock such as corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, beef cattle, dairy, swine, sheep and goats, but also horses, prawns, hops, Christmas trees, fruit, vegetables and a vast variety of flower and landscape plants. The county also is home to two small livestock packing houses. In addition, the Fairfield county often faces urban-suburban-rural interface with individuals and communities. Home horticulture is also a focus, driving the development of educational programming and individualized consultation.
