About The Position

Under general supervision, the Extension Assistant performs programmatic and outreach responsibilities for the proposed project along with the Agriculture & Natural Resources (AgNR) Unit. This position is for a recently USDA-NRCS-funded project under Texas's 10th congressional district. This project requires reaching selected counties within Texas's 10th congressional district. Extension Assistant will regularly visit selected farms or farmers to educate them on climate-smart farming, assisting in collecting soil samples and carbon data and monitoring the progress. The extension assistant will also assist in meetings/workshops, inviting farmers and growers, and supporting project-related activities at the county level and PVAMU. This position is critical to link research and extension teams with farmers and growers. This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Applicants with equivalent experience in place of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of four years of experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Considerable experience in fieldwork, field research design, and project implementations.
  • Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Driving license.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, establishes, and maintains program files and databases essential for project management and documentation.
  • Act as the primary liaison and point of contact for all program-related inquiries, providing prompt and professional assistance to the staff.
  • Collaborate with the county agents to plan, market, and coordinate logistics for program seminars, workshops, and other special events.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating committee meetings, including preparing materials, scheduling, and ensuring smooth proceedings.
  • Conduct farm visits as needed to monitor project activities and collect relevant data for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs others duties as deemed necessary.
