About The Position

The Expanded Learning Time (ELT) High School Student Intern works alongside the Explorers’ Group Leader by providing support with the delivery of engaging and academically enriching activities for Framingham Public Schools students in grades K-5. ELT High School Interns are expected to assist the group leader in facilitating high quality project based learning activities during before and after school programming, and also support the healthy social and emotional development of all students. Additional duties may include assisting with drop off and pick up, distributing snacks, managing program materials, and classroom management. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working with elementary school age children, is flexible and adaptable to a fast paced working environment, and can serve as a positive role model to all students.

  • Framingham Public Schools seeks candidates whose background, teaching, or service has prepared themto contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of education.
  • Also, we are interested in candidates who will bring to their professional practice the perspective that comes from a non-traditional educational background or an understanding of the experiences of those underrepresented in the educational field.
  • Passion and interest in working with children in an academic, recreational, or athletic setting, previous experience is preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of students, including students with disabilitiesand multilingual learners.
  • Strong capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with children, staff, families, and supervisors.
  • Capacity to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Willingness to engage in positive, proactive and restorative conflict resolution processes
  • May be required to work at multiple schools; reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Must be reliable, on time, organized, and ready to assume all duties and responsibilitieswith a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and willingness to learn new skills to meet the needs of students and families

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the ELT Group Leader, assist with facilitating all program activities and supporting seamless transitions between activities.
  • Inspire students to set and achieve ambitious academic and personal goals.
  • Serve as a role model for students by exemplifying the highest standards of professionalism in accordance with FPS core values.
  • Build positive and appropriate relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students, ensuring full inclusion of students with special needs and multilingual learners.
  • Attend and support family engagement activities and other special events as needed.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and/or professional development as required by the department.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the Coordinator.
