The NHMLAC is seeking a Casual Part-Time Exhibition Technician for our Exhibition department. The Exhibition Technician is responsible for Participating in exhibition projects related to fabrication, installation, and maintenance of exhibitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in art, science, or media field from an accredited college, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of related work experience, preferably in a museum environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable operating and maintaining hand tools and power tools including: hammer, screw driver, ratcheting wrench, chisel, utility knife, pry bar, drill gun, chop saw, hand router, band saw, drill press, belt sander, and table saw.
  • Functional math skills to perform precise measuring and calculate estimated materials needed for fabrication projects.

Responsibilities

  • Works on the installation, de-installation, and maintenance of museum exhibits.
  • Works on the fabrication and construction of exhibit components and accessory materials.
  • Works on crating, packing, and storage of exhibit related materials.
  • Performs cleaning, maintenance, and repair of exhibits.
  • Assists in maintaining equipment and supplies, keeping storage and work spaces clean, and ordering of materials.
  • Participates in collaborative development of exhibition parts.
