About The Position

Join the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library as our Exhibit Registrar / Technician and become an essential steward of the objects and exhibitions that define our visitor experience. This role offers a unique balance of collections management, exhibit care, and collaborative project work—with seasonal shifts that keep the work both meaningful and varied. Your commitment to museum best practices will help preserve our collection and support impactful exhibitions year-round. The pace and type of work in this position will vary; the busy summer season will require more hands-on routine maintenance and strategic care of the exhibits; off-season work will be driven by preparation for future projects, gallery rotations, and collections management/care, while still balancing maintenance responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in history, anthropology, museum studies, American studies or related field or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional registration or collections experience and up-to-date knowledge of museum best practices and materials.
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic museum cataloging rules and standards; familiarity with museum collections software.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and general carpentry/repair skills.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual (AV) equipment setup and troubleshooting (projectors, monitors, audio systems).
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; must be able to move throughout the facility and visitor areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and assist with all guest service tasks.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working onsite at TRPL, located in Medora, ND.
  • Must reside within a reasonable distance of Medora, ND (within 60 miles or less than a one-hour drive).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inventory audits and maintain accurate object records in alignment with museum cataloging rules and standards.
  • Use museum collections software to document, track, and manage objects.
  • Enforce care, handling, and safety protocols for all objects.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and support gallery rotations and object movement.
  • Prepare loan agreements, condition reports, and manage insurance and transit logistics.
  • Coordinate with donors, lenders, and vendors on acquisitions and loans.
  • Perform routine exhibit maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
  • Assist with exhibit installation and de-installation, ensuring safe artifact handling.
  • Maintain an organized workshop, storage areas, tools, and materials.

  • Salary ranges between $25.00-32.00/hour, commensurate with experience.
