About The Position

This Senior Assistant General Counsel position reports directly to the Chief Counsel for Administrative Services within the Office of General Counsel. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with agency-wide administrative rule making; reviewing and drafting department-wide policies and procedures; and providing legal advice regarding public records issues. This position may also provide assistance with other areas on an as needed basis, including reviewing and drafting contracts and leases, and drafting and analyzing legislative bills and amendments. This position may also represent the Department in administrative or civil litigation, including rule challenges.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of administrative rulemaking under Chapter 120, Florida Statutes.
  • Knowledge of Florida legislative process.
  • Knowledge of Florida public records law.
  • Knowledge of contracts and public procurement law.
  • Proficiency in civil, appellate, and administrative litigation.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, and Federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to research and interpret complex provisions of the law as it relates to powers, duties and functions of the Department.
  • Independent decision-making skills and a strong work ethic.
  • The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes.
  • The position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. A driver’s license history review will be conducted on all candidates in consideration for the position.
  • The selected applicant must be a member of The Florida Bar in good standing with two years of experience as an attorney.
  • Travel is required.
