About The Position

The Executive Director is accountable for providing Synergy Service's clients with quality professional services and defining and implementing plans and policies to further the agency's mission to overcome family violence. The Executive Director is accountable for the development, oversight, compliance, evaluation, and integration of all aspects of program, clinical, and administrative services within the agency. Toward this end, the Executive Director is responsible for establishing an environment that attracts, trains, rewards, motivates, and maintains excellent staff. In addition, the Executive Director will ensure that the organization raises and stewards’ sufficient funds to sustain, enhance and grow the agency. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and will establish a cooperative and productive partnership with them in carrying out the work of the organization, while also representing the agency as a leader in the community. Ultimately, the Executive Director is responsible to support and reinforce Synergy’s guiding mission statement as well as preserving our 501(c)(3) status.

Requirements

  • bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the organization’s mission and services
  • at least ten years of related leadership experience
  • the skills to oversee human resources and financial management matters
  • the ability to work effectively and proactively with other providers, and local, state and federal entities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • The employee in this position must have a valid driver’s license.
  • The employee must have the ability to use computer software, including Windows, Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • advanced degree (Masters or higher) from an accredited college or university in a field related to the organization’s mission and services, with emphasis on mental health
  • experience with programs similar to those at Synergy Services such as administering services to families, adults, youth and/or children
  • experience leading fundraising efforts
  • prior non-profit experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with board members, Vice Presidents’ team and all other applicable parties.
  • Keeps appropriate parties fully informed of important developments and issues by providing clear and timely information.
  • Represents and promotes the interests and the image of the organization to governmental entities, at all levels, to the local community, to accrediting bodies and to the public at large.
  • Serves as direct staff liaison to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Board Development Committee and indirectly to all Board Committees, task forces, and teams.
  • Serves on community committees and/or boards to maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Represents the agency on boards, professional associations, community task forces, local, state and national committees; speaks at seminars, community events, and special occasions; oversees agency's licensing and funding reviews.
  • Attends conferences, training, and development workshops as required for professional and organizational development and accreditation.
  • Accountable for fiduciary oversight of the agency's programs and services in association with the Board of Directors.
  • Ensures that financial controls are in place to protect the financial health of the organization.
  • Ensures accurate and complete service and funding reports are finalized and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Is fiscally responsible and ensures that revenue and expenses align with the budget.
  • Develops and implements a strategic fundraising vision for the agency.
  • Works with development, grant, and financial staff as well as the Board to implement fundraising programs that meet established goals.
  • Establishes effective relationships with major prospective donors, funders and other applicable parties.
  • Provides leadership to ensure that the organization attracts, retains, motivates, and develops a highly qualified workforce.
  • Selects and develops a cohesive team to successfully implement organizational objectives.
  • Manages a team of direct reports while also being readily accessible to all associates within the agency.
  • Ensures a work environment that promotes trustworthiness and transparency.
  • Establishes and maintains a system for managing and monitoring performance.
  • Ensures that meaningful and challenging goals for performance improvement are established.
  • Holds supervisees accountable for achieving performance standards and goals.

  • Ensures that the planning process is effective and that the organization’s strategic direction is clear to all staff.
  • Accountable for evaluation, development, enhancement, structure and expansion within the agency.
  • Identifies obstacles and problems and takes corrective action to achieve plans and goals.
  • Accountable for maintaining agency accreditation and expanding professional affiliations and associations.
  • Ensures that the program and facility comply with all applicable licensing requirements.
  • Serves as the agent of the organization in all contractual relationships.
  • Ensures that the organization delivers clinical care and internal customer service that demonstrates continuous quality improvement and progress towards meeting the highest standards for quality.
  • Ensures that the organization takes all measures necessary to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  • Supports client choice in care, engagement and help-seeking skills.
  • Promotes and teaches resiliency-building skills to empower clients and employees.
  • Understands the impact of trauma on development, learning, health and social-emotional well-being.
  • Understands concepts of secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue and the impact of these on quality of care.
  • Ensures policies and practices to reduce re-traumatization.
  • Participates in and promotes performance and quality improvement activities.

  • The Executive Director is accountable for the development, oversight, compliance, evaluation, and integration of all aspects of program, clinical, and administrative services within the agency.
  • Accountable for the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPS).
  • In addition, the Executive Director will ensure the organization raises sufficient funds and is a good steward of funds in order to sustain, enhance and grow the agency.
  • Accountable for planning, research, training, outcome development and measurement, statistical information, interdepartmental communication, and program integration for the agency.
  • Accountable for evaluation, development, enhancement and expansion within the agency.
  • Shall oversee risk management activities and will ensure risk mitigation factors are in place to the degree possible.
  • Will ensure Synergy’s various systems (electronic client records, databases, internal records, website, etc.) are user friendly and secure.
  • Currently manages 11-12 Vice Presidents who supervise a total of 220+ employees.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
