About The Position

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. The Executive Board is responsible for providing intergovernmental support to, and supervision of, the operational activities of UN-Women in accordance with the overall policy guidance of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, and in accordance with its respective responsibility as set out in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as for ensuring that UN Women is responsive to the needs and priorities of recipient countries. The Executive Board Secretariat (EBS), officiating from UN Women’s Executive Director’s Office, is the interface between UN-Women and Member States of the United Nations. The Secretary and the Secretariat team support the President and the four (4) Vice Presidents of the Executive Board in organizing and delivering official and informal sessions and meetings of the Executive Board. Requirements

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, or Philosophy or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Meet one of the following:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation of briefing notes, talking points, and other documentation through researching relevant topics
  • Drafting correspondence that supports the team with coordinating relevant meetings of the EB
  • Assisting in the communications of work for the Executive Board Secretariat, including through maintaining and updating the EB website, monitoring the generic e-mail inbox, updating e-mail distribution lists, and managing the Executive Board X account
  • Help finalize and regularly update the matrix monitoring the implementation of the UN-Women Executive Board decisions. The matrix keeps track of the implementation of specific and time-bound requests contained in Executive Board decisions, and the intern will regularly update it in liaison with divisions across the organization
  • Supporting the Analyst in arranging logistical and providing administrative support to the EBS for meetings and related events.

Benefits

  • Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
