About The Position

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Within UN Women, the Programme Support Management Unit (PSMU) provides corporate advisory services and direct support for project and programme development and implementation to ensure the delivery of results on gender equality and women’s empowerment.  PSMU leads the development of project and programme management policies, strengthening of corporate project and programme management capacities, and provides increased support to the field and headquarters in non-core project and programme implementation. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Project Management Office (PMO), and overall guidance of the Chief of Program Support Management Unit (PSMU), the Project and Programme Management intern will play an active role in strengthening project management oversight by supporting portfolio tracking and key stages of the project lifecycle. The intern will also contribute to data analysis and preparation of analytical information used by HQ, Regional, and Country offices, working in close collaboration with teams across the organization.

Requirements

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Project Management, Public Administration/Public Policy, International Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Data Science/Analytics, Information Systems, or other related fields are required.
  • Meet one of the following:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Support the review of project documentation for quality and compliance, consolidate cross‑office insights, and collaborate with team members to ensure the consistent application of project management standards through the review and assessment of existing practices.
  • Review and analyze project data from corporate systems to support PMO oversight. Conduct internal research and assessment in support of the development of data sets, portfolio snapshots, analytical information, and knowledge management resources.

Benefits

  • Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
