About The Position

In collaboration with other Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) staff, the Executive Director works to establish structures of support for efficient and effective responses to local school needs so that school leaders can focus on effective teaching, learning, and student performance. This role serves as an important support for Principals as they work to create conducive conditions for teaching and learning at the highest levels. Also, the Executive Director coaches, supports, and develops the capacity of team members to promote highly effective teaming. Models effective leadership practices and encourages innovative approaches. The Executive Director of Student Services supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the district. Provides leadership and guidance to promote high expectations. Retains current knowledge of developments and trends in behavioral and social-emotional interventions and provides leadership in determining department direction and improvement.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, Counseling, Social Work or a related field Required
  • No less than five years’ experience in an educational administrative or leadership role Required
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of best practices in student support and wraparound services, including but not limited to social and emotional learning needs, disciplinary practices and safe schools, Title IX supports, counseling and mental health, social and community supports and other partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain consensus, build teams and manage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serves on the level-alike team and collaborates with members and other offices, to build a common understanding of school strengths and needs and to ensure resources and supports are meeting school needs.
  • Provides team leadership and guidance that promotes collaborative planning, innovative thinking, and exemplary services.
  • Helps to design and lead professional learning opportunities for principals and school leadership teams to foster change in adult practice and accelerate student learning and performance.
  • Models effective leadership practices, including articulating a vision for effective school structures of support and facilitates collaborative interagency initiatives and ongoing coordination to support the needs of students and families through coordinated wraparound services
  • Conducts observations of principals as part of the team evaluation system, giving input to Executive Directors on principal evaluations. Evaluates the performance of assigned personnel as part of the team evaluation system, fostering professional growth through reflection and critical analysis of practice.
  • Acts as a point of contact for parent concerns that come to the Student Services Department; prepares a variety of reports and correspondences; disseminates best practices to schools and communities; and proposes ways to address performance challenges.
  • Creates budget proposals for and provides administrative oversight of assigned budgets as well as federal and state grant initiatives regarding application, implementation, fiscal management, and evaluation.
  • Serves as the representative of the Chief of Student Services as requested and performs other duties as assigned.
