About The Position

The purpose of this job within the organization is to receive, process, and maintain evidence and property.
This job works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Requirements

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires one year in law enforcement or closely related experience.
• Driver's License
• Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
• Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate and interact with others; to understand and interpret safety instructions; and to respond to internal and external inquiries.
• Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations.

Responsibilities

• Collects evidence and property that has been submitted by sworn officers; completes data entry for submitted items, with some items additional data entry and queries must be completed; packages and stores all items.
• Maintains a backlog of evidence and property that it is no longer necessary to maintain, in an attempt to return to owners.
• Releases evidence and property to officers for investigative purposes, lab submissions, court proceedings, etc.
• Responds to phone calls and in person visits from individuals attempting to locate and retrieve property or evidence.
• Creates and maintains reports for officers, departments, West Virginia State Treasurers office, etc. regarding evidence and property dispositions.
• Checks each report completed by the submitted by officers and completes data entry based on said reports; contacts officers with questions regarding their submissions and corrects possible errors.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Strives to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constituents.
• Contributes towards the department's mission by continuously striving to meet expectations, strategic goals and objectives.
