About The Position

The Property and Evidence Technician will assist in the departmental inventory, evidence management, and procurement functions to maintain appropriate supply levels and ensure all evidence is properly collected, securely stored, and accurately tracked in accordance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and chain-of-custody standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic knowledge of evidence handling procedures, including proper documentation and chain of custody
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate recordkeeping and tracking of evidence and property
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, records management systems, and law enforcement software
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation
  • Two (2) years of experience in a criminal justice or a public safety-related field

Responsibilities

  • Receive, process, secure, and maintain accurate records of evidence and property, ensuring proper management of the evidence and property room.
  • Maintain the evidence and property room in a clean, organized, and secure condition.
  • Collect, preserve, and prepare evidence records for court presentation, ensuring proper chain of custody.
  • Assist the Supervisor in obtaining quotes, and prepare purchase requisitions for materials, supplies, equipment, and services in accordance with procurement procedures.
  • Assist the Supervisor in the receiving of inventory and track departmental property; assign equipment to officers as needed.
  • Complete and maintain property receipt documentation for fixed assets in compliance with accounting requirements.
  • Aid in the maintenance of records for departmental vehicles and ensure timely servicing and maintenance.
  • Support the preparation, maintenance, and filing of all related documentation and reports for procurement and evidence management activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
