The mission of the Property Clerk Section is to accept, catalog, safeguard, store and produce as required for court, return to legal owner or otherwise legally dispose of all property coming into the custody of the New York City Police Department. Categories of property taken in include evidence required for criminal cases, safekeeping of found property, decedent's property, prisoner property, property no longer needed as evidence of for further investigation, contraband, seized peddler property pending release, DNA evidence, and property confiscated for forfeiture proceedings. Property received by the Property Clerk Section includes cash, jewelry, rifles, handguns, various weapons, general property of every description, evidence related to homicides and other crimes, and vehicles. All property coming into and leaving the Property Clerk Section is subject to strict legal constraints. Evidence & Property Control Specialist Level II, under supervision, perform responsible work relating to the security, courier and storage functions for the transport, inspection, storage and delivery of legal and illegal substances and property, such as firearms, narcotics, cash, vehicles, jewelry, etc, being held in New York City Police Department facilities. EPCS Level II may direct the inventory process by interacting with the public as well as various internal and external units. Additionally, the EPCS II may direct the return of property to owners, release to courts, return from courts, as well as disposals. May also coordinate, disseminate and ensure completion of daily assignments. (This is a brief description of what you might do in this position and does not include all the duties of this position).
