About The Position

The Evening Access Services Associate will contribute to the operation of UML Library and the Access Services department by participating in: building management (including closing procedures), student employee supervision, Interlibrary Loan, circulation desk functions, customer service, stacks maintenance, and other projects as assigned. Excellent communication is vital; supervisors expect nightly shift reports. This part-time position will be scheduled for up to 18 hours a week; preference given to evening (5 pm – 11 pm) availability. Occasional additional hours, especially during final exams or on select federal holidays, may also be required. Reporting to the Access Services Department, the candidate will perform the following job duties: 1. Provide building support such as supervising closing procedures, tidying of spaces and shelves, reporting facility concerns, and facilitating lost and found items. Establish and maintain communication with supervisors about student employees and building incidents. 2. Participate in the training and supervision of student employees, serving as a resource and contributing to a supportive team environment. 3. Provide and model customer service at the Library Services Desk. Facilitate the use of library materials by registering and maintaining patron accounts, assisting with Course Reserves and answering questions in person, and through phone, email, and LibAnswers. 4. Assist in the processing of Interlibrary Loan requests, retrieve and scan or ship materials as requested through RAPID and ILLiad, and receive and process incoming materials for use. Obtain copyright materials exceeding fair use guidelines using Reprintsdesk software or OCLC’s IFM payment system. 5. Promote the University’s commitment to service excellence by: Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed. Communicating with other UML offices such as UCAPS and UML Police. Ensuring optimal service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information. Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles. 6. Other duties as assigned by the Head of Access Services, or the Access Services Manager/Librarians. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED/equivalent, some college preferred
  • Experience in library environment desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems
