Ev Charging Systems Operations Specialist

Future EnergyTroy, MI
1d$78,000 - $86,000

About The Position

The EV Charging Systems Operations Specialist is responsible for configuring, standardizing, and operationalizing Future Energy’s commercial EV charging platforms across multi-site deployments. This role focuses on hands-on system configuration, OCPP troubleshooting, load management design, and development of clear, repeatable standards that enable scalable support. This is a technical operations role, not a software development position (no coding required). The specialist will work directly with charging hardware, CSMS platforms, and client networks to ensure reliable, secure, and supportable charging environments. The role requires strong systems thinking, disciplined documentation practices, and the ability to translate real-world field scenarios into structured configuration standards. Early-stage client interaction and occasional site visits are expected to validate configurations, resolve integration challenges, and formalize repeatable solutions for ongoing operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required if equivalent professional experience is demonstrated.
  • EV Charging Infrastructure: 3-5 years hands-on experience with CSMS platforms and commercial EV charging station deployment/support.
  • CSMS Platforms: Administrator-level experience with leading CSMS platforms.
  • OCPP Protocol: Expertise in OCPP 1.6 (message structures, state machines, configuration keys, error handling); OCPP 2.0.1 knowledge preferred.
  • Charging Hardware: Experience with multiple commercial charging hardware manufacturers including firmware management and warranty diagnostics.
  • API Integration: REST APIs, webhooks, authentication methods (OAuth, API keys), testing tools (Postman, curl).
  • Networking Fundamentals: Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to DHCP, DNS, firewall configurations, port forwarding, cellular/WiFi/Ethernet.
  • Systems Thinking: See how individual configurations affect overall operations at scale; identify patterns and create repeatable solutions.
  • Process Documentation: Strong written communication skills; naturally create documentation as you solve problems.
  • Load Management Systems: Understanding of static power allocation, dynamic load balancing, and site electrical capacity management.

Responsibilities

  • Own the configuration and administration of Future Energy’s CSMS (Charge Station Management System) platforms, establishing standardized settings and deployment templates across client environments.
  • Define and implement default OCPP configuration standards by client type (dealership, hospitality, fleet, workplace), ensuring reliable communication, security, and repeatable onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain standardized configuration playbooks that enable consistent deployments and reduce support variability across sites.
  • Document platform capabilities, configuration dependencies, and operational limitations to ensure internal teams clearly understand system behavior and support boundaries.
  • Configure and validate driver app settings, notifications, and user access controls to ensure consistent end-user experience and operational reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with clients during early implementation phases to understand real-world use cases and refine configuration settings.
  • Develop clear, detailed documentation and training materials for internal teams to enable scalable product support.
  • Formalize processes for ongoing product updates, configuration management, and client support handoff.
  • Maintain product support capability standards for EV charging hardware across multiple commercial manufacturers.
  • Act as the technical point of escalation for complex product-related client issues.
  • Diagnose complex OCPP connectivity issues by analyzing communication logs and identifying protocol errors.
  • Design and implement load management configurations for multi-charger sites with electrical capacity constraints.
  • Provide deep technical knowledge of CSMS-to-EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) device integrations, including networking fundamentals (DHCP, VLANs, firewall rules, cellular/WiFi connectivity) and firmware update management.
  • Configure and troubleshoot OCPP security profiles, manage server certificates, and ensure secure charging station communications using TLS/SSL protocols.
  • Manage API integrations with third-party systems (payment processors, CPO roaming networks, push notifications).
  • Evaluate new integration requirements and determine platform capability gaps requiring engineering support.
  • Define technical requirements and validate new charging hardware model compatibility with Future Energy products and services.
  • Engage directly with clients during product rollout and configuration definition phases.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to observe, document, and resolve unique product scenarios not replicable in-house (network troubleshooting, power capacity analysis, operational workflow optimization).
  • Support client escalations requiring high-level technical expertise and ensure positive outcomes.
  • Extract patterns from client-specific situations to build repeatable configuration solutions.
  • Join early client implementations to validate that configurations work in practice before formalizing as standards.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Client Success, and Product teams to incorporate client feedback into product refinements.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices related to EV charging network operations, CSMS platform scalability, and managed services.
  • Advocate for process improvements that enhance product stability, usability, and supportability.
  • Identify when client requests should become standard platform features vs. remain custom solutions.
  • Train Client Success team on technical concepts, troubleshooting procedures, and when to escalate.
