About The Position

The Estimator is expected to manage with complete autonomy all aspects of the estimate during preconstruction stages of project to include bid participation from subs and vendors, and preparation of project costs and duration based on thorough review and analysis of plans and written specifications for new construction/ground-up projects, and remodels and retrofits of existing facilities. This position requires a highly motivated and goal-oriented individual who has high attention to detail and delivers estimates with complete accuracy in short timelines, with the ability to prioritize and foster multiple project bids simultaneously, all while maintaining full emphasis on quality.

Requirements

  • Exceptional skill with written and verbal communication with the ability to disseminate information effectively
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials and methods for all disciplines including sitework, structural components, and MEP trades
  • Advanced skill in reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Knowledge and skill set to estimate conceptual or preliminary design documents
  • Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, OST, Bluebeam, and bid communication tools.
  • Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills. Must be completely deadline focused.
  • Ability to build and manage effective client relationships (customers, design team, subcontractor, suppliers, and user groups) and engage with all stakeholders in a professional manner that meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations
  • Ability to work independently and within teams
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, Quality, ethics and compliance requirements at all times
  • Participates in coaching and mentoring, supports training programs, and commits to both personal and staff development
  • Actively participates in industry, client, and community relations.
  • 7+ years of preconstruction estimating experience on commercial ground-up and renovation construction projects

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, or a related discipline is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Establish and validate project scope and standards of construction for each assignment. Make management aware of design-related problems, completeness of documents and other potential risks
  • Develop Clear and accurate scope documents for all projects
  • Perform quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for all items within project scope
  • Solicit subcontractor base, receive, and evaluate incoming sub quotes to result in a recommendation for best value sub in each trade category
  • Communicate and collaborate with Marketing staff to ensure all elements of RFP deliverables are provided in format requested
  • Actively participate in and pursue value engineering recommendations during preconstruction for the assigned projects
  • Develop and enhance subcontractor and vendor relations
  • Analyze and assemble cost data, unit prices, historical costs, and information that can be developed and used as a data base for future conceptual estimates; provide continuous feedback
  • Being present and actively participating in pre-bid or design development meetings, site tours, post-bid interviews and presentations to Clients. Travel as needed to support other regions
  • Mentor and train interns and Junior Estimators. Help in the growth of other staff
