About The Position

UCSF Enterprise Strategy & Transformation (EST) seeks an exceptional professional to join our highly skilled and engaged team providing internal consulting services to our dynamic, mission-driven institution. This position is accountable for the overall operating model of EST—ensuring the organization is structurally, financially, and operationally positioned to deliver high-value transformation outcomes across UCSF. The role partners closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor and EST leadership to drive disciplined planning, optimize resource deployment, strengthen performance management, and enable data-driven decision-making at both the portfolio and organizational level. While the role is primarily inward-facing, its impact is outward-looking: enabling consultants to focus on strategic advisory work by providing clear operating rhythms, scalable systems, and rigorous financial and workforce management. Select external engagement occurs through executive-level cost, benefit, and value discussions tied to major initiatives supported by EST, reinforcing the organization’s value proposition and return on investment. This role requires a leader who blends strategic acumen, operational rigor, and financial insight , and who can operate with autonomy, discretion, and influence in a complex academic health system environment. The EST Business & Operations Manager is the senior operational and business leader for UCSF’s Enterprise Strategy & Transformation (EST) organization, responsible for translating strategy into sustained execution excellence. This role provides integrated leadership across business operations, financial stewardship, workforce strategy, and internal governance for a multi-million-dollar enterprise consulting unit. This role provides consulting services to clients and projects in the form of financial advisory services and oversight. This role also interacts with, directs and manages external vendors and external vendor relationships. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $138,100 - $207,200 (Annual Rate). Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred OR 12+ equivalent experience/training.
  • 12+ years of operations, business management, or administrative leadership in a complex organization; experience in higher education or healthcare strongly preferred.
  • Advanced operational management in complex organizations
  • UC/UCSF financial management, recharge models, and compliance policies.
  • Resource planning, portfolio intake, and business process optimization.
  • Financial planning and analysis for multi-million-dollar budgets
  • HR operations and workforce planning in a professional services context.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained.
  • Sound judgment, ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
  • Development of business performance dashboards and reports.
  • Ability to apply change management in implementing programs
