About The Position

The ESOL Instructor is responsible for classroom instruction and training. The ESOL Instructor will plan for and deliver adult education classes, administer examinations, collect and record data as it pertains to student progress. The ESOL Instructor will integrate a holistic, student-centered approach to instruction and prepare students to become work-ready.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Science or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master's Degree preferred, however lived-experience and international experience considered in lieu of more traditional, US achieved credentials.
  • Experience: Minimum two years teaching/training experience working with Adult Learners.
  • Success in simplifying and communicating complex ideas and tasks.
  • Experience teaching/training students who may not have any formal education.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to work in an environment with very diverse group of people.
  • Must be committed to creating and sustaining a learning environment in which students feel safe, supported and encouraged; foster an environment that is inclusive, culturally rich, and bias free.
  • TESOL or comparable certification preferred. Will consider lived and work experience as an alternative.
  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in ESOL/Vocational ESOL, ESOL digital literacy, digital equity, and citizen test preparation.
  • Integrate work readiness content and digital literacy into regular instruction.
  • May teach other subjects depending on suitability and center needs.
  • Use effective, student-centered teaching practices and follow competency-based curriculum.
  • Create lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners, including the integration of educational technology.
  • Provide tutoring support and feedback to students.
  • Collaborate closely with case managers and employment specialists to ensure holistic approach to the student experience.
  • Responsible to support, advance, and contribute to a DEI framework.
  • Collaborate with students, staff and managers to purposefully work to implement student centered DEI initiatives.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings and develop and deliver presentations.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Maintain student records and data to track student progress and retention.
  • Maintain and express enthusiasm and commitment to helping students learn.
  • Provide job search assistance to students. Resume/cover letter writing.
  • Support the Site Manager and other staff in outreach and case management.
  • Present special lectures, seminars, and workshops as requested.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; reports any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
