About The Position

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for Equipment Operator I's in our Public Services department to operate construction and maintenance equipment in support of a variety of parks, horticulture, cemetery, airport, transit or solid waste collection vehicles and equipment activities including mowing, loading and related operations; and to perform other parks, horticulture, airport, street maintenance, solid waste or transit operations.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience involving the skilled operation of light construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticulture environments, street repair/maintenance, transit operations or related field.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.

Responsibilities

  • Operate light construction power-driven equipment, such as tractors, riding mowers, push-mowers, small dump trucks, solid waste collection vehicles and a variety of other equipment in support of maintenance, solid waste and construction operations.
  • Participate in the repair and maintenance of city owned properties such as parks, cemeteries, city streets, roads, alleyways, bus shelters, benches, solar lights, bus stop signs and/or drainage systems.
  • Perform additional grounds maintenance, construction and maintenance tasks such as mowing, clearing fence lines of obstructions, seeding, weeding, truck driving, and a variety of minor repair activities.
  • Identify equipment needs for each assigned project; transport and deliver equipment to and from construction sites or bus stop locations; maintain equipment; inspect equipment prior to use; secure equipment following use.
  • Maintain records and logs of all work performed and complete basic preventive maintenance on light equipment as required.
  • Transport construction equipment and materials as needed.
  • Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Perform routine repairs to plumbing, electrical and mechanical fixtures and equipment.
