About The Position

Operates and maintains two (2) or more types of light motorized equipment as a primary work assignment in the construction, repair of highways, buildings, parks, and other adjacent areas; may perform manual tasks in connection with general construction and maintenance work; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and one and one half (1 ½) years of work experience in the operation of equipment applicable to positions in this class or certification by a county trainer of the ability to satisfactorily operate equipment applicable to positions in this class.
  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate such competency by satisfactorily passing a performance examination.
  • Applicants must be certified by the county trainer on the following equipment or have one and one half (1 ½) years of work experience in the operation of: Roller and the Rubber Wheel Tractor with Boom and Flail Attachment (Bushwhacker).
  • Possession a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Type B) and a current State of Hawaii DOT examination certificate.
  • Applicants will be required to qualify on an appropriate examination.
  • The examination will consist of a qualifying performance evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Operates truck to haul rock, gravel, dirt, debris, and other materials and supplies used in the construction, repair and maintenance of roadways, buildings, parks, and adjacent areas
  • Operates rollers to compact aggregates, dirt, and other materials
  • Operates sweeper ½ cubic yard to sweep rubbish and trash in parking lot and adjacent areas
  • Stockpiles and loads dirt, gravel and sand cinders, crushed rock, and other materials onto truck
  • Operates a forklift to move supplies and materials or to load and unload supplies from a truck
  • Operates a diesel-powered rubber wheeled tractor with a sickle bar, boom, and flail mower attachment to trim bushes along roadways and highways
  • Furnishes equipment with fuel, oil, water, and air
  • Services and makes minor adjustments to equipment such as repairing spark plugs and adjusting clutches and brakes
  • Cuts grass and weeds, digs ditches, cleans dirt and debris from highways after storms
  • Spreads asphaltic concrete and rock in repairing pavement; may oversee the work of laborers performing manual tasks
  • May occasionally operate other types of motorized equipment representative of this class and/or lower classes as required
  • Performs other related duties as required
