About The Position

This position is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and communicating data that will inform Public Health and Wellbeing, Student Health and Counseling, and the larger division of Wellness at Penn in their respective efforts to promote wellness, prevent disease, and educate the Penn community. The functions of this position include: analyzing data to inform disease and injury prevention efforts; identifying disease patterns to create and influence interventions; monitoring and reporting various communicable conditions required by the City, State and Federal public health authorities; and supporting ongoing health and wellness programs in evaluation. This position will allow for involvement in numerous activities such as assessment, programming (including outreach), education, intervention, grant writing and research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigation, surveillance, and reporting of a wide variety of conditions that negatively affect the well-being of the Penn.
  • Assist in the management of case and contact investigation and infectious disease reporting.
  • Build and manage databases for disease surveillance and trend analysis. This may include communicable and chronic diseases, occupational and animal exposures, behavioral health concerns, and injuries.
  • Perform routine analysis from multiple data sets, including electronic medical record systems, and national and university-based surveys.
  • Communicate findings readily and often.
  • Write routine and ad-hoc reports and present findings to inform University and Wellness colleagues, and outside agencies, on public health response for, and overall health and wellness of, Penn students.
  • Provide in-service trainings for faculty, staff, and administrators as it relates to disease prevention.
  • Support research activities within Wellness including authoring manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific posters to report findings that benefit the broader scientific community.
  • Identify grant opportunities and funding sources for health and wellness initiatives.
  • Write applications and apply for identified grants and funding sources at the local, state, and national level.
  • Act as liaison to a variety of campus partners, UPHS, PDPH, and the Environmental Health and Radiation Safety.
  • Participate in relevant on-campus and Wellness committees, and public health professional organizations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
