Position : Epidemiologist/Biostatistician Desired Education, Certifications, and Training Masters Degree in Epidemiology, Health Outcomes and Economics Research, Public Health, or similar; PhD preferred.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience directly supporting research projects from start to finish by designing and executing statistical analysis plans and disseminating results through the delivery of tables, data visualizations, write-ups for reports and manuscripts, and poster and podium presentations.
  • Experience using real-world data, including large electronic healthcare databases, administrative claims data, and patient registries.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical modeling methods, including survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, mixed effects modeling, generalized linear regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis, multivariate methods, bootstrapping and sampling.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate statistical methods and results to technical and non-technical audiences in written, tabular, graphical, and spoken form.
  • Experience leading a biostatistical team for biomedical, epidemiology, or similar research.
  • Excellent data management skills, including data cleaning and formatting, merging and restructuring datasets, evaluating and correcting data problems (e.g., missing data, internal inconsistency), and producing and maintaining data documentation (including data dictionaries and codebooks).
  • Competence in writing programs for data management and analysis using STATA (required) or other statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS).
  • Willing to learn and utilize other statistical software as needed.

  • Knowledge of US Department of Defense medical system.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and/or executing statistical analyses for research and program evaluation projects, including: Characterizing incidence, prevalence, risk factors, and natural history of disease. Estimating burden of illness, treatment patterns, and healthcare resource utilization/costs. Evaluating policies or programs, assessing the comparative effectiveness of treatments. Developing and/or validating diagnostic or patient-reported outcome instruments.
  • Collaborating with internal and external experts to ensure the relevance and quality of each project, from study design through analysis and dissemination of results.
  • Assisting PIs in developing study plans, defining research questions, and selecting and operationalizing variables to ensure scientific validity.
  • Developing and/or reviewing statistical analysis plans, including describing and justifying proposed statistical methods.
  • Estimating study power and/or sample-size requirements.
  • Organizing, cleaning, validating, and otherwise preparing for analysis large datasets from secondary sources (e.g., clinical records, claims data, registries, industrial hygiene).
  • Executing and/or overseeing the execution of statistical analysis plans, including: Evaluating and addressing potential confounders and sources of bias. Testing assumptions and assessing limitations for statistical methods used. Writing programs in STATA and maintaining records of all work. Conducting statistical tests and developing statistical models. Discussing results with the study team and revising analysis plans as needed. Generating publication-ready tables and data visualizations to summarize results.
  • Interpreting results of analyses and preparing write-ups (e.g., for abstracts, posters, manuscripts) and/or delivering presentations of methods, results, and implications.
  • Critically reviewing literature to understand clinical/public health context for studies
  • Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of guidance documents for analytic methods, research design and reporting, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Monitoring studies to ensure protocol adherence and verify data-collection quality.
  • Attend and/or make presentations at key scientific/medical conferences.
