About The Position

The Epic Principal Trainer (PT) is responsible for training end users and developing curriculum for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with a specific focus on HIM and Reporting (Cogito) workflows. Principal Trainers are responsible for the development, creation, validation, and maintenance of all training materials including but not limited to the curriculum matrix, lesson plans, exercise books, user guides, PowerPoints, tip sheets, and additional supplemental materials. The PT is also responsible for building and maintaining the training environment. During any clinical system implementation or upgrade, this position is responsible for completing assigned tasks within the project scope and leading the education efforts for projects assigned to him/her. Principal trainers are expected to round in the clinic or other healthcare-related environment and to provide At The Elbow 1:1 support when needed. Principal Trainers must work on site in the IT building.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
  • At least 1 Epic Certification (expired or up-to-date), 2-3 years of experience in Epic as Super User or part of implementation. If no direct Epic experience, 5-7 years of related experience.
  • Being cooperative and approachable, and taking time to listen to and address others' questions orconcerns
  • Demonstrating flexibility with respect to required changes in training content and delivery methods
  • Skill and experience in adult education
  • The ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner
  • The ability to communicate information clearly and concisely to trainers and trainees when speaking and in writing. This includes targeting the amount, style, and content of the information to the needs of the receiver.
  • The ability to develop and deliver formal presentations. This includes presenting information in a clear and interesting manner, commanding the audience's attention, developing effective materials, and handling questions or challenges from the audience.
  • The ability to learn new content and leverage that knowledge to develop strong training programs
  • The ability to read text, identify major points, make inferences, and draw conclusions that accuratelyreflect the material
  • The ability to see things in an open-minded way and examine an idea or concept from as manyangles as possible
  • The ability to work without close supervision, taking ownership of work activities and ensuring training sessions and supporting materials meet Epic standards

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with building and testing of training environments, and providing support and troubleshooting issues
  • Collaborating with other trainers by co-facilitating classroom instruction and assisting with exercises as needed
  • Designing, developing and maintaining instructional materials (such as presentations)
  • Developing role-based training content, independently or with team members, using a variety of software programs, tools, and applications (such as Microsoft Office)
  • Following up with trainees outside of the classroom to offer additional support - Serving as an expert educator to internal staff
  • Incorporating feedback from others into existing training and training administration procedures
  • Learning new content and consulting with subject matter experts to develop training materials and answer any participant questions
  • Maintaining policy and procedure documentation
  • Managing projects by prioritizing and creating and adhering to timelines
  • Preparing training lessons, printing materials, and setting up the training room and environment prior to the training session
  • Presenting information verbally and in writing in a clear and easy to understand manner
  • Training and credentialing additional classroom trainers as needed
  • Training staff and end users by teaching technical topics as needed
