About The Position

The EOD Technician will support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in providing oversight and assistance for unexploded ordnance (UXO) cleanup activities on the islands of Vieques and Culebra within the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The technician will perform field operations under the direct supervision of a UXO Technician II, III, or UXO Supervisor, ensuring all activities comply with applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, and federal requirements.

Requirements

  • Must meet the qualifications for UXO Technician I as defined in DoD Explosives Safety Board (DDESB) TP-18.
  • have minimum 5 years or more as an Army 89D, Marine Corps MOS 2336 or Navy M04A and be graduate of official DoW EOD School house to obtain the MOS.
  • Valid Training certification documentation.
  • Ability to work under direct supervision in hazardous field conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, digging, walking long distances, and working in tropical environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended periods on Vieques and Culebra.
  • Must be able to deploy within 24 hours of notification.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and medical qualifications.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, humid, and rugged terrain.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
  • Must be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting federal UXO remediation or environmental cleanup projects.
  • Familiarity with FWS operations or environmentally sensitive sites.
  • Experience working in Puerto Rico or similar remote island environments.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (or ability to obtain).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform UXO-related field tasks in support of site investigation, surface clearance, and subsurface clearance operations.
  • Assist with UXO identification, documentation, and reporting under direct supervision.
  • Conduct geophysical surveys, anomaly investigation support, and basic excavation tasks as directed.
  • Adhere strictly to Explosives Safety Standards, Work Plans, and Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHP).
  • Support environmental protection measures to minimize impacts to sensitive habitats and wildlife.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate field logs, daily reports, and UXO documentation.
  • Participate in safety briefings, tailgate meetings, and required training.
  • Operate hand tools, basic field equipment, and detection instruments as authorized.
  • Comply with all FWS, DoD, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support logistical operations in remote and austere environments.
