About The Position

The Environmental Technician is responsible for supporting the White Pines Landfill's environmental management program. This role requires an understanding of environmental regulations and best practices, as well as knowledge of monitoring equipment and sampling techniques.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Education required
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an environmental capacity, preferably in a landfill or waste management facility
  • Basic knowledge of state, and local environmental regulations, including permitting, monitoring, and reporting requirements (federal knowledge would be a plus)
  • Site Specific elements will be trained
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring equipment and techniques, including air quality, groundwater, and soil sampling
  • Basic computer skills, preferably with some maintenance software program experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment and supplies
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and terrain, including exposure to heat, cold, and potentially hazardous materials
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
  • Must comply with all safety and environmental regulations and procedures
  • Willingness to work on-call or overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples of groundwater, leachate, and other materials for laboratory analysis
  • Conduct field tests and measurements to assess the quality of the environment
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, including pumps, valves, filters, and tanks
  • Monitor the landfill's compliance with environmental regulations, including the collection of data, filing of reports, and interfacing with regulatory agencies
  • Follow established procedures for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials
  • Maintain monitoring equipment and calibrate instruments as required
  • Communicate with management to provide updates on the status of the treatment plant and any equipment or maintenance issues
  • Participate in training and skills development opportunities to stay current on industry advancements and regulations
