Are you looking to… Gain experience working in the field on vegetation and soils related projects as an assistant to a crew lead Have the opportunity to interact and learn from a community of technical experts Join a well-respected environmental consulting company engaged in interesting, dynamic work As an Environmental Technician, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office(s) as part of our Vegetation & Soils team for a 4- or 8-month term starting May 2026. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:

Requirements

  • Working towards a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institute
  • An absolute, and genuine dedication to safe work
  • Familiarity with construction operations on pipeline rights-of-way or in mining environments and understanding of safety culture
  • Ability to be productive while working independently as well as in a team setting
  • Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork, including walking long distances through rough terrain
  • Results-oriented and efficient, with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues and clients at all levels
  • Proficient with computers and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency)
  • Comfortable using advanced GPS units or tablets
  • Has energy and desire to support others and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic environment
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with clean drivers abstract, able to travel throughout the provinces and work weekends when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Active participation in maintaining Montrose’s strong safety culture
  • Travel, often to remote locations, will be required to carry out field programs
  • Conducting standardized vegetation/weed identification and applying weed control
  • Assisting with various tasks, including but not limited to field preparation, safety documentation, execution of field work, and data management
  • Working cooperatively with technical, health and safety, GIS, and administrative colleagues to successfully deliver our products
  • Assisting Project Managers and administrative staff with various tasks as they arise
  • Assist with other service line projects when needed
  • Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: data collection; preparing and submitting ground disturbance requests; hazard assessments; sample processing and delivery; and contributing to field reports
