Are you looking to… Gain experience working in the field on vegetation and soils related projects as an assistant to a crew lead Have the opportunity to interact and learn from a community of technical experts Join a well-respected environmental consulting company engaged in interesting, dynamic work As an Environmental Technician, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office(s) as part of our Vegetation & Soils team for a 4- or 8-month term starting May 2026. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:

Requirements

Working towards a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institute
An absolute, and genuine dedication to safe work
Familiarity with construction operations on pipeline rights-of-way or in mining environments and understanding of safety culture
Ability to be productive while working independently as well as in a team setting
Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork, including walking long distances through rough terrain
Results-oriented and efficient, with excellent problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues and clients at all levels
Proficient with computers and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency)
Comfortable using advanced GPS units or tablets
Has energy and desire to support others and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic environment
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with clean drivers abstract, able to travel throughout the provinces and work weekends when necessary

Responsibilities

Active participation in maintaining Montrose’s strong safety culture
Travel, often to remote locations, will be required to carry out field programs
Conducting standardized vegetation/weed identification and applying weed control
Assisting with various tasks, including but not limited to field preparation, safety documentation, execution of field work, and data management
Working cooperatively with technical, health and safety, GIS, and administrative colleagues to successfully deliver our products
Assisting Project Managers and administrative staff with various tasks as they arise
Assist with other service line projects when needed
Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: data collection; preparing and submitting ground disturbance requests; hazard assessments; sample processing and delivery; and contributing to field reports
