This position is for an Environmental Service Assistant at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, which is part of Advocate Health, the third-largest nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States. The role is full-time, 1st shift (0700-1530), and is benefit eligible, requiring work on rotating weekends and holidays. The Environmental Service Assistant is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across various hospital areas, including patient care areas, surgical areas, public/private restrooms, conference rooms, lobbies, offices, elevators, and stairwells. Key duties involve cleaning all environmental surfaces, assisting with emergency spills, mopping floors, replacing cubicle and window coverings, and managing waste disposal, including hazardous and medical waste, in accordance with infection control guidelines. The role also includes sorting, stocking, and delivering linens, preparing soiled linen for transportation, cleaning and preparing dismissal/transfer units, distributing non-medical supplies, filling and cleaning supply dispensers, and inventorying/ordering supplies. The incumbent is expected to keep the housekeeping closet organized and clean and report any mechanical failures or unsafe conditions to the supervisor. The position requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, work independently, understand facility layouts, prioritize tasks, adhere to policies, and possess basic computer and excellent customer service skills. Physical demands are significant, involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, crawling, and prolonged standing/walking. The role involves exposure to strong germicidal solutions, cleaning chemicals, temperature changes, soiled linen, and infectious waste, necessitating the use of protective clothing and familiarity with hazardous waste policies.
