The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to join our team as an environmental supervisor with the Division of Environmental Services (DES) at our Reynoldsburg laboratory. Got your attention? Let’s do this! We’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented person to oversee DES programs for preparation and analysis of environmental parameters. You’ll work closely with other divisions and agencies to establish and maintain protocols for inorganic sampling, analysis, and reporting to ensure DES meets federal and state compliance standards. You’ll supervise and direct a team of lab techs using sensitive, technical instrumentation for sample preparation and analysis. You’ll interpret data and results to make sure they align with the division’s Quality Management Plan, direct staff in analytical method research projects, and validate new data using established quality assurance protocols. We’ll count on you to plan for and maintain adequate staff, equipment, and chemical inventory to ensure the program is operating at peak efficiency. You’ll conduct research using scientific literature, data and consultation with other environmental chemists, as well as provide technical assistance to colleagues with Ohio EPA, other government agencies, and the private sector.

Requirements

  • 5 yrs. trg. or 5 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology &/or other comparable science field &/or mathematics &/or history &/or archaeology (i.e., latter two subject areas pertain only to Department of Transportation) evaluating & approving complex engineering design plans, conducting most sensitive environmental surveillance activities &/or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections, investigating complex public health &/or environmental pollution problems, initiating complex enforcement actions, or assisting in planning, developing & maintaining specific environmental projects & programs; AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. as lead worker.
  • Note\: Training &/or experience must correspond to environmental area to be assigned. Positions in Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding those in solid waste planning unit, also require valid Ohio certificate of registration as sanitarian or valid Ohio certificate as sanitarian-in-training.
  • OR 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 2, 85862.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee lab programs that prepare and analyze environmental parameters.
