The Environmental Services Team Lead is responsible for executing set plans and overseeing department activities, including huddles and coordination of labor during their shift. This role ensures that all hospital areas remain safe, orderly, and in sanitary condition, particularly in the absence of a supervisor.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience working with the cleaning equipment and chemicals used in hospitals and healthcare centers.
  • Knowledge of health and sanitation standards.
  • Physical stamina.
  • Ability to operate heavy machines.
  • Familiarity with industrial cleaners and chemicals.
  • Willpower to work effectively with various populations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, values statements, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and achieve the desired patient outcome.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to assess, plan, and implement day-to-day operations, and communicate updates to team members.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out set plans and lead department activities such as huddles and coordination of labor during their shift to ensure all hospital areas are safe, orderly, and in sanitary condition in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, floors, offices, conference rooms, equipment, furniture, common areas, and waiting rooms following hospital-approved infection prevention standards.
  • Perform high-level cleaning in specialized areas such as clinical areas, surgical suites, cath lab, specialty rooms, and sterile areas without direct supervision.
  • Serve as a resource for external and internal department team members on environmental services matters.
  • Provide input on department processes and training materials, and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure patient and department priorities are met day-to-day, resulting in the safest outcomes for patients and customers.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment and cleaning procedures specific to infectious elements in isolation rooms.
  • Ensure environmental services team members maintain proper infection control cleaning standards at all times, including hand hygiene requirements.
  • Understand and use proper hospital-approved chemicals and disinfectants and follow dwell times for each task performed and product used.
  • Understand how to handle various types of waste, including regular, recycling, hazardous, chemo, regulated medical waste, pharmaceutical, and radioactive.
