About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Manager of Sommer Park, the Environmental Programmer – Sommer Farm is responsible for the following: Deliver and ultimately help design environmental education, living history, and team-building programs for participants of all ages. Assist with facility staffing during public hours, special events, and after-hour rentals. Assist with Ancient Oaks Summer Day Camp Work outside in all weather conditions Provide excellent patron service. Take reservations for school programs and wedding/private rentals. Handle all major forms of payment via the RecTrac registration system. Assist with routine facility and landscaping maintenance, including mowing, brush cutting, trail work, and inspections. Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District's safety program. Perform all other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

  • A strong interest in, and willingness to learn about, local natural history and human history, as well as informal interpretation/teaching methods.
  • Experience in working with animals.
  • Experience working harmoniously with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to use common computer systems, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn RecTrac system.
  • Must have a valid Illinois State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Education, History, Biology, or a related field is preferred. Experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
